Chat-Room Threat Prompts Statewide School Lockdowns - WINNIE HU, NY Times
In an unusual move, the State Education Department issued an urgent warning to every school district this morning of the potential threat of "a Columbine-type incident in a New York State school at 11:18 a.m." The anonymous threat, which did not otherwise specify a school or location, was disclosed in an Internet chat room on Wednesday night to a student in Arkansas, school and police officials said. A local Arkansas police agency contacted the New York State Police less than two hours before the attack was supposed to take place, prompting state authorities to take the unusual precautions.
