School's grade doesn't compute: CSAP rules saddle Branson OnLine - Eric Hubler, Denver Post
The tiny, dust-choked town of Branson in southeastern Colorado has found a way to turn computers and the state's school finance law into a successful export: a small-town education. Branson OnLine, a cyber- school run out of Branson's 1920s-vintage schoolhouse, earns millions for the otherwise impoverished district. Parents say the project renewed their faith in public education after their children, many of whom have special physical or emotional needs, had bad experiences in regular schools....The online courses became an Internet success story. The virtual Branson School won recognition from the state Education Department last year as a bona fide public school, and this year it offers a full slate of courses by computer to 520 students, from kindergarten up, statewide. The Education Department calls it Branson Alternative School....
