One year makes big difference in Kiel - Amy Weaver, Herald Times Reporter

...Now, a year later, more than 30 students are enrolled in the alternative school setting called a charter school. Although people may think such a school only exists for those students who can’t cut it in the traditional classroom, Steiner and teacher Heidi Smith know it’s much more than that. “We are really using this to meet the students’ needs, wherever they are,” Smith said. By offering alternative learning opportunities for students in seventh through 12th grade, a student who failed a class or has health problems can enroll in the charter school and take classes online from home or at school. Students also can take classes the district may not offer, such as Advanced Placement and foreign languages, through a charter school.
