Chico Unified adopts plan to go digital in next three years - JOHN MICHAEL

Kids are coming to school with computer skills and knowledge. Instant messaging and e-mail has taken care of that. As a result, some students even know more about computers and technology than do their teachers. Because of the increasing computer competency of students - coupled with the need for a formally adopted plan to qualify for state and federal funding - the Chico Unified School District is developing a plan for how it will go digital for the next three years. Everything from skills students will be expected to learn to obtaining hardware and software to helping teachers become computer proficient will be covered in the plan, said Vikki Gillett, CUSD director of information technology.
