JASON Project accelerates learning in schools by Libby Reel, Oak Ridger Staff
Several area schools have accelerated their learning through the JASON Project, a hands-on learning experience in science and technology. Robert Ballard, who discovered the wreckage of the Titanic in 1986, founded the JASON Project, making it possible for students and teachers to expand their understanding of the earth's physical systems. JASON Projects have delved into studies of the oceans, rain forests, outer space, volcanoes and glaciers. Students can go online and talk in real time to scientists as they explore new, cutting-edge scientific research and discover why life exists on this planet. Last year, they learned about frozen worlds. Local schools join millions of students via satellite and distance learning technologies supported by grants from the Bechtel Foundation, BWXT Y-12 and Bechtel Jacobs Co....
