Educational Accountability and Its Implications for Technology - John Cradler and Andrew Bridges, Converge
...More recently, some states also have required that electronic learning resources (ELRs) including video, multimedia, software applications and Internet instructional resources, also align with the state standards. For example, the California Department of Education (CDE) has established the California Learning Resource Network (CLRN), with the cooperation of publishers, to identify, review, and operationally define ELRs according to the specific grade level content standards. The review guidelines and process were approved and are monitored by the State Board of Education. With CLRN, educators can now go online to http://www.clrn.org and quickly find ELRs that match to the standards guiding their instruction and can also locate CLRN-reviewed lesson plans that integrate these ELRs. CLRN use is not limited to California, but is also widely accessed in other states, particularly those that emphasize teaching to standards. This prompted a member of Congress to suggest establishing a national version of CLRN, American Learning Resource Network (ALRN).
