Dade schools to create online student database

The Miami-Dade County school district announced Thursday that IBM is donating $1 million to create an online database of student information that could eventually allow teachers immediate access to years of test scores and parents to track their children's performance. The three-year IBM partnership, one of two nationwide, was announced during the district's 10th annual Instructional Technology Conference, which continues today for 2,800 teachers and 800 high school students at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The grant and the conference are part of a broader effort by the nation's fourth-largest school district to incorporate 21st century technology into classrooms that still rely largely on textbooks and lectures....
