Technology helps education go the distance - Teaching from afar saves funds

Filled with loads of high-tech equipment, the two Spanish teachers deliver lessons from brightly lighted studios to 1,700 elementary students at schools across the city. The program, part of IPS' distance-learning network, is exposing young learners to a second language at an age when it's easier for children to grasp new concepts, experts say. It's also a way for the state's largest school district, which has few foreign-language teachers, to deliver cost-effective instruction while boosting student achievement....
