Students maintain computer system - Select Fowlerville middle schoolers train to keep the district's system up and running

When a downed power line disrupted electricity to Fowlerville Junior High School on a recent Friday, Grace Damerow feared she would face a flood of computer maintenance requests from teachers on Monday. But the school district's technology administrator has a secret weapon for coping with complaints about lost computer service: her squad of students trained to repair and service the school's computer system. Damerow oversees a pilot Technical Assistant Program (TAP) that trains eighth-grade students to perform routine computer maintenance and help teachers and students use unfamiliar software. After the blackout, math teacher Chuck Staky couldn't log onto the district's computer network. Damerow deployed a team of students to re-set the network switch....
