New Jersey school district to test iris recognition system

A school-entry system that features iris recognition technology developed by a New Jersey company soon will be tested for the first time. The Plumsted, N.J., Board of Education agreed Oct. 21 to test the system for six months, starting in January, and then decide whether it should be made permanent. “This will continue to ensure the safety of our children, and we will contribute to a body of knowledge that currently doesn’t exist,'“ Phil Meara, an assistant superintendent in the Ocean County district, told The Times of Trenton.... The technology, which is now used in airport security systems worldwide, features a patented process that identifies people by photographing the unique patterns of their irises, the colored rings in human pupils. ...
