Students make a stellar discovery: With high-tech tools, math and science lessons can be fun

Psst -- class today will be held in the space shuttle. Or maybe it'll be in the space station or at mission control. Or perhaps students will build a Mars land rover and steer their robotic vehicles across that planet's rugged terrain. Selfridge Air National Guard Base unveiled a $1-million renovation to its Starbase space camp for area schoolchildren Monday. The upgraded facilities are galaxies away from the average classroom. The program now includes replicas of the space shuttle's flight deck, NASA's mission control, the International Space Station and a room designed to replicate Mars. The changes are courtesy of donations and federal funds steered its way by U.S. Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich....
