In schools, scholars have noted how low income and minority students are more likely to have teachers who assign "drill and kill" rather than creative exercises on the computer (Merrow, 2001)1 . Warschauer (2000)2 , in his ethnographic study of student use of technology at one high- and one low-income high school, found large differences in the ways in which students used computers. For example, teachers at the wealthy high school emphasized creativity and originality in planning computer projects for their students, whereas teachers at the low-income high school focused on having their students learn rote tasks on the computer....
