District plans to use Web to teach students, inform their parents

It might not be long before laptop computers are just as common for Palmerton Area School District students as pencils and notebook paper. Local educators have completed a plan for the district's technological future. ''To be competitive, our students need to use the tools of technology and to use that technology effectively,'' Assistant Superintendent Tom Davis said. The plan envisions students checking e-mail and reading online news sources before getting to school. When they arrive in homeroom, they'd plug in their laptop to the school's network, verify their attendance and order lunch....
