Dr. Lisa Tribodeaux of PISD Academic Services and Matt Sipes, assistant director of PISD’s eSchool, discussed new additions to the district’s blended learning program, commonly known as eSchool. Tribodeaux described the blended program as student learning driven by online learning and a personal control over pacing, place, time and path as opposed to a formal, brick-and-mortar education. Through blended learning, students have more targeted individual instruction and agency over their learning experiences. According to a PISD student survey of 30,000 students, 2.4 percent of students don’t have internet access or technology at home, however, Tribodeaux maintains the program seeks to eliminate barriers to child learning, even if students are disadvantaged to technology. Students have access to technology at their school to continue their work, and the district has tools to help students at home as well.
