Intel Details Plans for Laptop Anti-Theft Tech - Mark Hachman, PC Mag
Intel's Anti-Theft Technology (ATT), due to be released later this year, has been designed to prevent both the physical theft of laptops as well as their data by locking down notebooks identified as stolen. The ATT technology was announced at the Intel Developer Forum in Shanghai last week.
Comments:
Our School came up with a novel anti-theft strategy. As most are stolen to be fenced, we branded our notebooks with a big blue and white Eagle (school mascot) on the lid. We used paint that fuses with the plastic, so it cannot be taken off. Of the three faculty thefts of home computers in the three years we have done this, all three times the intruder skipped the school notebook while stealing everything else. WE have an alum who runs a promotions company silk screen them with the special paint. So they not only look awesome, but nobody EVER wants to mess with them. It also prevents us from buying Dells, as the all have this big honking logo in the middle of the lid. HPs are OK, but IBM/Lenovo's are the best to paint.
