It's well known that search engine operators, among others, record queries together with IP addresses. TrackMeNot is a boon for users who find that overly intrusive. The add-on blows a thick layer of fog by sending randomly selected queries in the background to all possible search engines. Queries actually sent by the user cannot be differentiated from the herd and disappear into the fog.
