Study examines seniors' social interaction with robots - SCOTT R. BURNELL, UPI

Computerized "pets," such as those coming from Japanese electronics makers, could approach their flesh-and-blood counterparts in providing people with social interaction stimuli, scientists said Thursday. Purdue University is running a yearlong study that puts an AIBO robot dog for six weeks in the homes of people 65 years and older who live alone, said Alan Beck, director of the Center for the Human-Animal Bond in Purdue's School of Veterinary Medicine.
