New Uses for Old PCs - Mike Musgrove, Washington Post Staff Writer

The traditional last resting place for a discarded computer is anywhere it won't be in the way -- in a closet, under a lamp, in the attic, anywhere. But there are a growing number of computer-recycling options that won't take up space. More important, the new recycling programs don't involve pitching old computer parts -- which can include several toxic chemicals -- into the trash. Computer makers Dell, Gateway and Hewlett-Packard have recently launched or improved programs to collect old PCs and printers from any manufacturer.
