Closing the gap

It seems as though barely a week goes by without us reporting on a rise in the number of Internet users in the world. In fact, as I sit down to write this I do so with the knowledge that someone, somewhere, is logging on to the Net for the very first time. Yet, while I may not know that person's name, sex, or occupation, it's pretty easy to hazard a guess as to which part of the world they're from because despite the fact that the online population is growing rapidly it's still dominated by Internet users from a few geographic regions. As the most recent Nua report established, nearly 10 percent of the world's population now has Internet access. But, despite a rise in the number of Internet users in developing nations, the majority of Internet users still come from the US, Europe and certain countries in Asia-Pacific....
