Search engines should set standards and adhere to them, say webmasters, advertisers and a senior attorney for the Federal Trade Commission. Uniform standards would serve both web site owners and searchers. "The search engines should provide ethical dealings," said Greg Boser, President, WebGuerrilla, LLC. "Standards and ethics are a two-way street." The Standards, Please! session, moderated by Danny Sullivan at the Summer 2002 Search Engine Strategies conference, brought together a senior attorney from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) provider, and a Search Committee co-chair from the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB).
