Elizabeth Millard, NewsFactor Network Virtual reality, spawned from university research, seems mainly to have gone back to its roots these days. Less than a dozen years ago, it seemed as though virtual reality was poised to be the next major technology , though actual implementations were mainly being put to use in arcades. Then, as quickly as it arose amid much hype, the field seemed to disappear. Even the shoot-em-up headsets at the arcades were hard to find. Did virtual reality fizzle in actuality? "It went through the hype cycle," Jackie Fenn, vice president at Gartner, told NewsFactor. "Now it's wallowing in the trough of disillusionment." ...
