How can colleges limit the spam that students and faculty members receive on campus e-mail systems? Spam is becoming increasingly frustrating to colleges and universities -- and not just because students and faculty members are annoyed by the unwanted e-mail messages. The abundance of spam is discouraging some people from using e-mail and is constituting an ever-larger share of campus e-mail traffic, adding financial burdens to colleges. Because colleges value openness, some methods of controlling spam are difficult in academe. But some institutions are finding ways to limit spam....
