There have been tears aplenty over the last month at Nua, as we've toiled away updating the How Many Online? section of the site. The good news however, is that we can now report that just under 10 percent of the world's population now has Internet access. At the end of May 2002, approximately 580.78 million people around the world had access to the Net, up from 407.1 million in December 2000. Obviously, despite the best will in the world, we have to emphasize that these figures are "guesstimates". Given that Nua relies on figures from reputable research firms around the world who don't all use the same methodology to arrive at their conclusions, the best we can offer is an aggregate total which we believe comes close to the actual numbers of people with Internet access....
