That's 1,000,000,000,000 computer functions in the time it takes to snap your fingers. But that will be the speed of a computer network linking Purdue University's and Indiana University's supercomputers when it's fully functional in a few months. The network -- called the Indiana Virtual Machine Room -- will be the first in the nation to link university-owned computers with a combined peak capacity of more than one teraflop, or more than one trillion operations per second, said James Bottum, Purdue's vice president of information technology....
