After witnessing the latest powerline hype at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, I stated that the industry would have to show me that the technology finally works before we'd commit more significant coverage (see "Family ties," February 2002). Even in last month's editorial—entitled "Say watt? "—I questioned the vision of powerline proponents. Little did I know that a box of powerline products conforming to the HomePlug Alliance specification was headed to my doorstep even then.
