Apple increases price of new iMacs - Computer maker hikes prices by $100 per unit

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 21 — Citing an increase in component costs, Apple Computer Inc. has raised the prices of its new iMac computers by $100 each. THE CUPERTINO-BASED computer maker issued the “bad news” on the opening day of MacWorld Expo in Tokyo on Thursday. Prices for iMac models will now range from $1399 to $1899. Since the company introduced the new iMac in January, memory prices have tripled and the costs of flat-panel liquid crystal displays have jumped by 25 percent, said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior director of hardware product marketing. “It’s an industrywide issue right now,” he said....
