For Mail, a Palm That Gets It

EVERYONE has bad hair days. But for Palm Computing, that day is now entering its second year. Ever since the inventors of the Pilot, PalmPilot, Palm V and Palm VII departed to found Handspring in 1998, Palm has done little more than tweak its existing designs, adding a little more memory here, a card slot there. When it comes to innovation, Palm has done more poking at the envelope than pushing it. That's why the unveiling of the long-delayed but ingenious Palm i705 on Monday was a big deal. Like the three-year-old Palm VII, it's a small, light, self-contained organizer that can process e-mail and surf the Web, wirelessly and inexpensively....
