How is the searching accomplished and how well do these work for finding specific images on the Web? In the December 15, 2000 RLG DigiNews, this feature examined the state of inventories of digitized collections on the Web. At the time, we bemoaned the lack of coordination amongst the existing inventories and the absence of item-level access to images across collections. With image search capabilities now appearing in association with some of the Web's largest and most comprehensive search engines, it is natural to wonder whether a mechanism for finding images that meet specific criteria is finally at hand....
