ISU virtual reality project trains soldiers

Ames, Ia. - Iowa State University technology will put soldiers on the front lines without risk of injury or death. A $23 million project will train Iowa National Guard troops to carry out complex military operations in virtual reality, which uses computer images to depict realistic scenarios. The technology will create accurate memories for soldiers of places they've never seen before. Commanders will be able to watch a military operation from an enemy's perspective. Keeping troops battle-ready becomes tricky as military technology changes, said Adrian Sannier, associate director of ISU's Virtual Reality Applications Center....
