COMPUTER ASSOCIATES: 900 to lose jobs, but severance planned

Computer Associates International Inc., the world's fourth-largest software company, said Thursday that it would fire 900 employees, or 5 percent of its workforce, in the face of slowing corporate spending on technology. The layoffs began Thursday and will continue Friday, said Sanjay Kumar, president of Computer Associates, which is headquartered in Islandia, N.Y. About 700 of the laid-off employees work in the United States and Canada, with many of the rest in Latin America....
