How MS is planning to conquer the wireless industry, too

Sitting in a Seattle conference room last week, I had the feeling I was watching history repeating itself, or at least Microsoft trying to make it repeat itself. I was--along with about 100 other editors and analysts--attending a Microsoft-sponsored show-and-tell for the company's mobile computing technology. Today I want to discuss Microsoft's "mobility" strategy from about a 50,000-foot level. In future columns I will delve into the specifics, but today I'd like to set the scene for Microsoft's attempt to control the wireless/mobile industry as thoroughly as it controls desktop computing and applications. In fact, Microsoft hopes to turn wireless and mobile computing into mere extensions of its desktop and server platforms....
