HALF A BILLION ONLINE

459 million people worldwide have internet access from their homes, according to the "Global Internet Trends Report" from Nielsen//NetRatings. The at-home internet population increased by 30 million users from Q1 to Q2 2001. The report, which measured the internet populations in 20 countries, found that the US and Canada accounted for 40% of the world's online audience in Q2 2001 -- down from 41% in Q1 2001. The area of Europe, the Middle East and Africa accounted for 27%, which is static from the first quarter, followed by Asia/Pacific at 22%, and Latin America at 4%.
