Wireless Internet Network Pilot Program Set to Debut This Fall

Starting this fall, UC Berkeley students, faculty and staff will be able to logon to the Internet through a campuswide wireless network.
The pilot program, which will begin with a cost assessment in September, will allow users to access the Internet through their own laptop computers and wireless devices.

"If everything goes well, we'll have a (complete) wireless network in about a year," said Clifford Frost, UC Berkeley's Director of Communications and Network Services. "We should have a good idea of costs and what it takes to roll it out, and then it's an issue of whether or not the campus can afford it." ....
