Arik Hesseldahl, Forbes.com, 06.22.01, 10:00 AM ET NEW YORK - With so many failures littering the landscape of the so-called information appliance market for consumers, you have to wonder just what the people at Sony are thinking. Just what is it about Sony's (nyse: SNE - news - people) eVilla Internet appliance that makes the company think it will be any more successful than say, 3Com's (nasdaq: COMS - news - people) aborted Audrey device or Netpliance's I-opener? That's hard to say. Anyone who's been using computers for more than a few years can't help but notice the resemblance of the eVilla to the earliest of Apple's (nasdaq: AAPL - news - people) Macintosh computers. But the first Macs didn't include built-in stereo speakers--which the eVilla does. Nor were they built with accessing the Internet in mind--which the eVilla is....
