Trade my PC for a key chain? I might just do it! Here's why

How much stuff should I take? It's a question that occupies more of my time than I'd care to admit. Like for the past couple of days I've been thinking about what needs to go with me to PC Expo in New York, where I am spending next week as part of the ZDNet/CNET team covering the show.

After years of carrying too much stuff--don't ask about the times I've hauled two separate notebook systems to events--I am heading in what may turn out to be the opposite direction. Short of a failure of nerve, this time I may carry little more than a key chain and the Kyocera SmartPhone, which doubles as a wireless PDA.

THE KEY CHAIN PART is both crucial and not as nutty as it sounds. That's because attached to that key chain will be all my important documents, every column I've written this year, the template I use for the column, schedules, spreadsheets, and some reference material I carry for my volunteer job. And these items will be immediately available on most any PC or Macintosh I am likely to encounter....
