Optical router rivalry heats up

Two months ago, SynTera was an unknown startup working on an obscure technology: 40-Gbps framer chips for optical routers (they're used to repackage OC-768 traffic into 40-Gb frames). Then in May, a close competitor, Catamaran Communications, got acquired by German chip maker Infineon Technologies (NYSE: IFX) for $250 million. Suddenly, one-year-old SynTera has a lot of new friends....
