DAN QUAYLE WATCH
Dan Quayle is one of my favorite politicians, a great example of how far a
white male--arguably more stupid than my now deceased dog (sorry, Simon)
--can go because he was born a white male millionaire. If you are skeptical,
name one woman or African-American or Chicano male (rich or poor) who
could be as dumb as Quayle and serve as vice-president or run for
president.
"I stand by all the misstatements that I've made."
"I was recently on a tour of Latin America, and the only regret I have
was that I didn't study Latin harder in school so that I could converse
with those people."
"It isn't pollution that's harming the environment, it's the impurities in our
air and water that are doing it."
"You're a very strong woman... Though this would be a traumatic experience
that you would never forget, I think that you would be very successful in
life." (telling an 11year-old girl why he would want her to have the baby if
she were raped by her father, 1988)
"Republicans understand the importance of bondage between a mother
and child."
"It's wonderful to be in the great state of Chicago."
"Most women do not want to be liberated from their essential natures
as women." (On the campaign trail)
"I love California. I practically grew up in Phoenix."
"I believe we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and
democracy, but that could change."
"What a terrible thing to have lost one's mind. Or not to have a mind at all.
How true that is." (speaking to the United Negro College Fund)
"The loss of life will be irreplaceable." (after the San Francisco earthquake.)
"Speaking as a man, it's not a woman's issue. Us men are tired of losing
our women." (talking about breast cancer)
"If we do not succeed, then we run the risk of failure."
"The future will be better tomorrow."
