1. What is Lorber's working definition of gender?
2. Be sure you understand the sameness/difference concepts and how they function.
3. According to Lorber, what are the three main functions of gender?
4. Lorber writes: "The process of gendering and its outcomes are legitimated by religion, law, science and the society's entire set of values." Think of examples of legitimatization and enforcement of gender status from your own experience.
5. What does Lorber mean by "the dominant categories are hegemonic ideals?" Think of examples.
6. What does all this have to do with LGBTQ folks (sexual minorities)?
7. Reflect on how you "do gender." Do you ever deliberately disrupt gender assumptions? Why or why not?
